A PLACE TO CREATE NEW OPPORTUNITIES
"...a place that welcomes, a place that serves, a place that teaches, and a place that entertains and enlightens."

For more than a decade, our community has been chasing its dream to establish a performing arts center / community gathering place in the City of Jacksonville.
By no small measure, perhaps the most challenging circumstance has come in the form of a worldwide pandemic when activity all but halted for more than a year.

THE PANDEMIC:
AN UNFORTUNATE CIRCUMSTANCE
One tragic casualty of the pandemic resulted in an unlikely opportunity for the JAX. As a consequence of the disastrous economic impact of extended national shutdowns, MacMurray College, founded in 1846 and located in
the center of Jacksonville, was forced to close its doors in May of 2020 and sell off its real estate assets. The board is now evaluating the possibility of rehabilitating one of those buildings – the Education Complex which served
as the College’s pool and gymnasium.

The endurance and commitment of the board to persevere in the face of these disappointing setbacks stands as
testimony to their individual and collective leadership and their devotion to their community. They are intent on
emerging from the pandemic and resuming their commitment to a high quality of life through the arts and education and reigniting the promise to fulfill their community’s aspiration to become home to a full-scale performing arts facility for Jacksonville and the
surrounding region.
